Joe McElderry looks to next Christmas
Wednesday, 23 December 2009
'X Factor' winner Joe McElderry is going to attempt to score a Christmas number one next year.
The young singer - whose track 'The Climb' was beaten to this year's festive top spot by heavy metal band Rage Against The Machine with their track 'Killing In The Name Of' - has vowed to make a bid for the top spot in 2011.
He said: "I'll give the Christmas number one a good crack next year now.
"I'm obviously disappointed not to get to the top spot but I've worked hard promoting the single and I'm going to keep doing that.
"I'm too young to know of Rage, but there are obviously people who like it, so I can't complain."
Joe - who was mentored by singer Cheryl Cole on the talent programme - looks set to take the number one spot for the first time as a solo artist on Sunday (27.12.09), which will mean he will see the New Year in at the top of the singles chart.
He also revealed he plans to have dinner with George Michael, with whom he performed a duet on the final of the ITV talent show.
He added: "I'd love to collaborate with George, or cover one of his hits on my album.
"He sent me a bottle of champagne to congratulate me on winning and has invited me and Cheryl out for dinner."
He also said he is hoping to support Cheryl's band Girls Aloud, when they reform in 2010.
Joe said: "It would be good to support Girls Aloud on their next tour. I've spoken to Cheryl about it. I'll have to make sure I drop a few more hints."
