Strictly fans relax - Bruce Forsyth is going nowhere
Monday, 20 October 2008
TV legend Bruce Forsyth has vehemently denied rumours that he's going to quit as host of strictly Come Dancing at the end of the current series.
A BBC source was reported to have said the 80 year-old saw the show as the "perfect way to end his career," allegedly adding: "He knows it’s time to go and although it’s going to be very sad for him, it’s something he has to do."
But Bruce's manager last night hit back, saying: "This story is not true and the matter is being put in the hands of our solicitors."
The showbiz icon that is Bruce has come under fire recently following some fluffed lines, with friends of the star reported to have said he had been struggling with reading the autocue and sticking to the script.
However a BBC spokeswoman told the Daily Express: "It is not true. Bruce has not quit Strictly Come Dancing. We adore him and love having him as an integral part of the show."
And in his usually-jokey fashion Bruce himself responded to his critics with a new catchphrase: "I am not doddery...doddery I am not!"
The news that Forsyth is staying put as host of the hit reality dance show alongside telly babe Tess Daly will be a welcome relief to Strictly fans who've been rocked by the news head judge Len Goodman is leaving the programme after the current run.
Goodman reportedly felt the trek to the USA each week to be judge on sister-show Dancing With The Stars was becoming too much, and with the BBC allegedly paying him just £90,000 compared with £250,000 from US network ABC, he's decided to quit.
Forsyth, however is being paid a reported £450,000 for fronting the current series alongside co-host Tess Daly.
So he'd be silly not to keep on doing what he does best wouldn't he?
