Bruce Forsyth gets 'Strictly' pay cut
Wednesday, 1 July 2009
Bruce Forsyth has agreed to a 25 per cent pay cut.
The veteran presenter is expected to earn around £500, 000 for hosting the new series of 'Strictly Come Dancing', down from the £660,000 he was paid last year.
A source said: "Bruce loves 'Strictly'. We haven't signed a contract yet but we hope to have things sorted in the next two weeks.
"In times like these, people are taking cuts. Gone are the days when you'd get a bonus for being loyal.
"But can you imagine watching 'Strictly' without Bruce? It would be almost unthinkable."
The 81-year-old presenter was warned he would face a pay cut at a meeting with director-general Mark Thompson last month.
The show's head judge Len Goodman recently insisted he would be happy to receive less pay to continue on the show.
He said: "I think we'll probably be asked to take a pay cut, which I understand, we are in the middle of a recession.
"The job's brilliant. It's not exactly working on the docks - which I did for 10 years. It's a joy so I don't mind if they knock off a couple of bob."
