Arlene Phillips defended by Donohoe
Wednesday, 24 June 2009
Amanda Donohoe has criticised the BBC for sacking Arlene Phillips.
The 'Emmerdale' actress - who plays millionaire mother-of-three Natasha Wylde in the ITV1 soap - has branded the network "insulting" over their decision to kick the experienced choreographer off the 'Strictly Come Dancing' judging panel in favour of Alesha Dixon.
She said: "Why not add another judge, sure. But to remove a woman of her experience is insulting to the audience."
It was reported last week that show bosses hoped to replace the 66-year-old dance expert with 2007s winner, pop star Alesha, 30.
However, Amanda, 46, has branded the decision "discriminating" and insists bosses would never give veteran presenter Bruce Forsyth the boot because of his age.
Speaking to 'This Morning' hosts Fern Britton and Philip Schofield, she added: "If Brucie can do it until he's 81, why such discrimination?"
Fern, 51, agreed with Amanda's statement and invited the sharp-tongued former judge to join them onto the breakfast show.
She said: "Hear, hear. Arlene, come and see us."
Co-host Philip, 47, added: "You can be a judge, you can sit here."
