UFC Champ Evan Tanner dead in desert
Wednesday, 10 September 2008
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship star Evan Tanner has been found dead in a remote Californian desert.
The ex-champ's body was found almost two miles from the campsite in which he was staying in the Palos Verdes Mountains.
Temperatures there had reportedly soared to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius) and initial reports suggest he suffered heat exposure.
The 37 year-old had been the subject of an extensive search by police after he sent text messages to friends saying he was running out of water and was trying to walk back to his campsite.
His friends notified police that Tanner had been camping alone in the area and he'd not replied to their following messages.
Rescuers located his campsite and motorcycle, but there was no sign of martial arts champ Tanner until a Marine helicopter pilot spotted the body late on Monday.

County Sheriff Lieutenant George Moreno confirmed there was no sign of foul play, saying: "It looks like he succumbed to the elements.
"His bike was parked at the campsite. It didn't look like anything was wrong with it.
"A bit of a mystery. But if he was already feeling the effects of the heat, almost anything can happen."
Tanner had been keeping a blog of his life for Spike.com this summer in which he spoke about the camping trip
Chillingly, an entry on August 16 included this sentence: "I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life."
