France will be desperate to avenge their World Cup Final defeat to the Italians two years ago, when Zinedine Zidane famously saw red for his clash with Marco Materazzi.
The two countries have developed an increasingly bad-tempered rivalry since Les Bleus beat Italy in the Euro 2000 final, courtesy of David Trezeguet's late winner.
The two sides boast some of the biggest names in world football, with the likes of Thierry Henry and Franck Ribery providing the French attack with plenty of flair.
They face an Azzurri side renowned for their defensive steel, marshalled by captain Fabio Cannavaro and outstanding goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
