Euro 2008 - Austria v Germany

Monday, 16 June 2008

Gary Lineker presents live coverage from Vienna as Austria meet neighbouring rivals Germany in a potentially decisive Group B encounter.

Austria are attempting to avoid becoming only the second host nation to fail to progress from the group stage, but the size of their task tonight was underlined by a 3-0 home defeat to Germany in February.

They haven't won this fixture since Germany was unified and much will rest on the shoulders of captain and play-maker Andreas Ivanschitz.

Germany are record three-time European champions but haven't reached the knockout stages since they last won the competition in 1996. But in the likes of Michael Ballack, Miroslav Klose and Jens Lehmann they have experienced players who excel in big games.

There are also highlights of the other group game between Croatia and Poland, which is shown live on BBC Three simultaneously to this game.

For viewers with access to the Red button, there is live match coverage with alternative commentary and rolling highlights, as well as extensive highlights of every game, all the goals from the tournament and highlights of classic matches from previous years.

This match is on BBC ONE Monday 16th June 2008 @ 7.30-10pm.
