Dark days for Arsenal as Koro Touré brings malaria into camp
Wednesday, 23 July 2008
Things aren't looking good for the Gunners - Koro Toure has malaria and there is a chance that the whole squad could come down with the potentially fatal disease.
The Arsenal vice-captain might be renowned for his strength and pace but he won't be playing any football for a while.
Touré only realised he had the disease during the team's tour of Austria and Hungary. He had felt dizzy and extremely tired and after visiting a doctor at a local hospital he was told he had the infectious disease.
A source told The Sun: "It was obvious to everyone Kolo was not feeling himself when he met up with the squad.
"He was rushed to hospital and tests showed up that he had contracted the disease.
"The medical staff are very concerned about him and are trying to work out how long he will be out for.
"This would be disastrous for the team because he is one of the leaders of the side and a very important player."
It is thought he picked up the disease during a recent holiday on the Ivory Coast.
It will not been known if any of his team mates have caught the disease for a while as it can take up to a month for symptoms to show. It can be fatal if not treated quickly.
