Terry Wogan to quit Eurovision?

Tuesday, 12 August 2008

Sir Terry Wogan has hinted he is set to quit as the BBC's commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Terry - who has been commentating on the singing show since the 70s - admits he is unsure about taking the presenting role again because of the contest's tactical voting leading to the United Kingdom also scoring so badly.

He told the Radio Times magazine: "I was considering giving up before the contest in Belgrade this year and I'm very doubtful about ever wanting to do Eurovision again. I think it's time someone else took over."

Following the event in May this year, Terry, 70, revealed his disappointment that former 'X Factor' singer Andy Abraham had not scored more highly after his performance of 'Even If'.

Terry said: "I think it's tremendously disappointing from the point of view of the United Kingdom. Andy Abraham gave, I think, the performance of his life with a song that certainly deserved far more points than it got when you look at the points that Spain got, that Bosnia-Hercegovina got - some really ridiculous songs."
