Al Green's BET honour
Wednesday, 25 June 2008
Al Green was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Black Entertainment Television Awards (BET) last night (24.06.08).
The soul singer accepted the accolade after performing his hits 'Let's Stay Together' and 'Love and Happiness' at the Los Angeles event.
Although he had the star-studded crowd, which included P. Diddy and Ludacris, on their feet singing along, the 62-year-old later apologised for his performance, saying: "I'm sorry I didn't sing as well as I could. I got scared."
Other winners at the event, which was hosted by D.L. Hughley, included Michael Jackson's former producer Quincy Jones, who received the Humanitarian Award and Kanye West, who picked up two prizes for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Best Collaboration for 'Good Life' with T-Pain.
Chris Brown - who was sitting next to his rumoured girlfriend Rihanna - picked up Best Male R'n'B Artist, while Alicia Keys won Best Female R'n'B Artist.
In a gushing speech, Alicia paid tribute to the other nominees, saying: "I just want to say that we are so incredible, we are such an incredible people. We are so beautiful and fly, and everybody wants to be like us. I mostly want to thank all of you that are watching and standing here right now. Without you, I really really appreciate you very much. I want to dedicate this to all the other nominees, because we put so much heart and soul into everything."
