Julie Goodyear quits show

Thursday, 26 November 2009

Julie Goodyear has been forced to quit West End show 'Calendar Girls' due to ill health.

The 'Coronation Street' legend - who has been playing Cora (Miss July) for only three weeks - has been struck down with a virus, leaving her bedridden and with painful joints.

Doctors have now ordered her to rest, meaning she can't fulfil the rest of her contract.

Her spokeswoman said: "She will be fine, she just needs to rest and that would be impossible with eight shows a week."

Julie will now be replaced by former 'EastEnders' star Hannah Waterman, who will start her role on December 1.

Julie is most famous for playing landlady Bet Lynch in 'Coronation Street' and retired from the show in 1995.

She made a brief return to the series in 2002, but had to be written out after only a handful of episodes because of ill health.

'Calendar Girls' also stars Kelly Brook, Helen Lederer and Arabella Weir.
