Ryan Seacrest wants Jennifer Lopez to become a judge on 'American Idol'.

The US presenter is reportedly hoping to line up the singer and actress to appear on the talent spotting panel, which is currently made up of Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.

When asked about the star's possible inclusion on the show, Ryan said: "We love Paula - but Jennifer and her next to each other would be a hell of a combination.

"I'm actually calling one of the Simons right now, that's a great, great idea.

A minute later Ryan was spotted on his phone to either show boss Simon Cowell or show producer Simon Fuller saying: "Simon? Simon, it's Ryan. What do you think about Jennifer and Paula? Seriously..."

Ryan has also reportedly signed a new contract this week to host the show for another three years, worth nearly £30 million, making him the highest paid reality TV host in history.

Simon Fuller said of the 34-year-old star: "Ryan is one of American television's most talented stars. I am so happy that we will continue our relationship into the future."

Meanwhile, show boss Simon Cowell is reportedly negotiating a £100 million a year contract for the show, which would make him the highest paid TV star in history.
