Matt Littler's directing dream
Thursday, 19 June 2008
Matt Littler may be leaving 'Hollyoaks', but will return to the show as director in future episodes.
Matt, who plays Max Cunningham in the Channel 4 soap, makes a dramatic exit from the soap on Friday (20.06.08) after 11 years, and says he has been preparing for his departure with Darren Jeffries, who played the recently exited character Sam 'O.B' O'Brien.
Matt said: "I'll miss everyone. But I'm going back as a boss to direct some episodes. Darren and I made the decision to leave at the same time, so the producers got two storylines for the price of one. I see Darren all the time. He's my best mate.
"I've been kind of making this decision for three years now. I've been in' Hollyoaks' since I was 14 and I think it's the right time to leave."
Matt's character has been through a number of dramatic storylines in the show, including becoming addicted to cocaine, marrying a psychopath and falling in love with his stepsister.
There has also been tragedy for Max with his sister dying of leukaemia and his stepbrother committing suicide, while his father and stepmother both died in a car accident.
However, Matt lists his worst moment in the show as being tricked into jumping into a frozen lake by his evil wife Clare Devine, played by Gemma Bissix.
He said: "That was grim. There have been down parts, like when the writers didn't know what to do with Max and OB. But then we came back stronger than ever."
