'Hell's Kitchen' becomes a 'Burnout'
Friday, 30 October 2009
'Hell's Kitchen' is to be replaced with a cheaper version.
ITV1 ruled that the show - where celebrities learn to cook gourmet food and serve it for free to other stars - was too expensive and will be swapping to a downsized version.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "It's no secret that 'Hell's Kitchen' was an expensive show.
"This time they're keeping the costs down and making it easier for decent celebrities to take part because they won't have to live with everyone else."
TV presenter Anthea Turner and singer Ms Dynamite were among the contestants on the last series, headed by Marco Pierre White.
The scaled-down version of the program - to be called 'Marco's Kitchen Burnout' - will still feature the famously straight talking head chef but will be hosted in a real restaurant rather than its usual east London set.
Rather than getting an expensive meal for free, diners will also have to pay for the food.
The show - which airs next April - will also be pre-recorded rather than going out live, but bosses are not ruling out a return to the 'Hell's Kitchen' format at a later date.
A spokesman said: "We are working on a new idea for Marco. 'Hell's Kitchen' may well return in the future."
