Paul O'Grady was thrilled when his show was named the Most Popular Entertainment Programme.
The Stig made a rare appearance to collect the Most Popular Factual Programme on behalf of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and the rest of the Top Gear team.
Matt Littler might have left Hollyoaks but his exit scene earned him the Outstanding Serial Drama Performance Award.
Benidorm was the surprise winner of the Most Popular Comedy Programme Award and the Most Popular Newcomer Award went to EastEnders star Rita Simons.
David Tennant picked up two awards via video link, one for Most Popular Drama (Doctor Who) and the Outstanding Drama Performance.
He also announced that he is quitting the role at the end of 2009 which will have upset millions of Doctor Who fans worldwide.
Ant and Dec managed to pick up the Most Popular Entertainment Presenter as they have not yet left for the new series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
Britain's Got Talent missed out on the Most Popular Talent Show prize as viewers voted Strictly Come Dancing the best.
Simon Cowell was given the Special Recognition Award and EastEnders picked up the biggest award of the night, the Most Popular Serial Drama Award.
