Ross Kemp's Sky deal

Ross Kemp's Sky deal

Friday, 10 July 2009

Ross Kemp has signed a two-year contract with Sky TV.

The former 'EastEnders' star will now make another 12 of his award-winning documentaries for Sky One.

The subject of the hour-long programmes has not been revealed, but Kemp has confirmed they will be "extreme", like his past investigations into gangs and the war in Afghanistan.

In a statement, Sky One boss Stuart Murphy said: "In an era of often bland and stuffy current affairs reporting, Ross brings colour, passion and insight, and reveals the stories first to millions of viewers.

"What he has achieved with his films is something unique to British broadcasting."

In his previous documentaries Ross - who played tough guy Grant Mitchell on the BBC soap from 1990 until he quit in 1999, before returning for a brief stint in 2006 - interviewed neo-Nazi skinheads in California, corrupt police in Brazil and members of the infamous Bloods and Crips gangs.

He also travelled to Afghanistan's dangerous Helmand Province with a battalion of the British Army.
