'Robin Hood' axed
Friday, 3 July 2009
'Robin Hood' has been axed by the BBC.
The third series of the drama ended last weekend with the title character - played by Jonas Armstrong - killed off.
Despite previously insisting the show could continue without him, BBC chiefs have now confirmed there won't be a fourth series.

A spokesperson said: "Viewers have enjoyed three fantastic series of Robin Hood but with the death of Robin in last week's finale, we feel that the show has reached its natural conclusion."
Greg Brenman, head of drama at Tiger Aspect, said: "We have been immensely proud to be the most recent custodians of the 'Robin Hood' legend. From the outset it was our ambition to find an exciting and modern way of interpreting our version of the hero and his legendary life.
"We have had a fantastic time creating and producing 'Robin Hood', working with some of the most talented actors, writers and directors in our industry. We are sad to be saying goodbye to this much-loved project."
The final episode - which was watched by 1.7 million viewers - also saw the deaths of Keith Allen's Sheriff of Nottingham and Guy of Gisbourne, played by Richard Armitage.
The future of the show has been the subject of much speculation for several months following Jonas' decision to quit.
