Michelle Ryan's Merlin role
Wednesday, 23 July 2008
Former 'EastEnders' actress Michelle Ryan and 'Little Britain' star Anthony Head have signed up for BBC One's new drama 'Merlin'.
The fantasy show, a 13-part series about the would-be wizard and Prince Arthur, is due to air on Saturday evenings from September.
The title character will be played by 22-year-old Colin Morgan, who appeared in 'Dr. Who' as Jethro, with 'Lewis' actor Bradley James starring as Prince Arthur.
Michelle - who has most recently appeared in US TV series 'The Bionic Woman' portrays wicked sorceress Nimueh, while Anthony plays the prince's father, King Uther Pendragon.
Richard Wilson, Will Mellor and 'Heroes' star Santiago Cabrera will also feature, while John Hurt lends his voice to the Great Dragon.
BBC Wales drama boss Julie Gardner said: "In this new version, Merlin and Arthur are young contemporaries for the first time ever, bringing a much-loved tale to a whole new generation with a fresh, youthful new look and approach for Saturday nights this autumn on BBC One."
'Merlin' is set before Arthur becomes king, in a time where magic has been outlawed. It is being filmed in Wales and France and show chiefs are promising "spectacular" CGI special effects.
