Gok Wan's clothing OCD
Monday, 8 February 2010
Gok Wan suffers from "clothing" Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
The 'How to Look Good Naked' presenter battles with the mental disorder - which causes anxiety and intrusive thoughts - everyday and is so apprehensive about what he looks like, he has to plan his outfits a week in advance.
He revealed on yesterday's (07.02.10) Desert Island Discs show on Radio 4: "I suffer from really bad clothing OCD, so on a Sunday I work out all of my outfits for the whole week. That includes filming my show and also when I'm going out with friends or to a do in the evening. It works out at about 20 outfits a week."
The 35-year-old self-esteem coach is so paranoid he will be criticised for wearing the same outfit twice, he records all of his clothing choices on his computer and often asks fans for their opinion.
He explained: "I log everything on the computer, so I know where I've worn it to, and the last time I wore it.
"I mean really, it's bad. It's terrible. I find myself now on networking sites tweeting what I'm going to be wearing and asking people what they think."
Gok is not the only celebrity to suffer from OCD - which can result in repetitive actions such as hand-washing, cleaning or counting.
Soccer star David Beckham and Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding have previously spoken out about their battle to stop the condition taking over their lives.
