Bruce Jones's TV return
Wednesday, 3 February 2010
Bruce Jones is returning to TV in a new sitcom.
The actor - who played 'Coronation Street' layabout Les Battersby for ten years, but was sacked in May 2007 after a drunken tirade against his co-stars - has landed the role of a band manager in a comedy based on 'The X Factor'.
Bruce, 57, will star in the sitcom 'That Band' which will follow Overdrive, a group of highly-sexed but useless singers who fail in a talent contest.
A show source said: "Overdrive are an 'X Factor' style boyband. There are a lot of groupies, sex scenes and general bad behaviour - its like 'Skins' meets 'Phoenix Nights'. Bruce plays the band's manager trying to keep the boys in check."
Another former 'Coronation Street' actor, Scott Wright, and 'Hollyoaks' star Lee Otway will also have roles in the new sitcom.
Last year that Bruce was reportedly left homeless, bankrupt and living in a friend's caravan after his wife kicked him out of their home and got a court order ordering him to stay away from her after drunken bust up.
'That Band' is expected to be screened on Sky or E4.
