Emmerdale - Mark saves Ryan's life and Rodney feels guilty

Monday 20th July

Mark tries to make the best of the situation when Natasha and Maisie leave for a 2 week break. A veiled dig from Cain reminds Mark that his wife is leaving their marriage hanging by a thread. Cain remarks that he wouldn't be surprised if Natasha didn't return a thought that's clearly praying on Mark's mind.

Returning to Home Farm, Mark's hurt when Natasha tries to leave without saying goodbye and demands to know where he stands. Natasha admits she's fallen out of love with him, but raises Mark's spirits by telling him she'll be coming home. That afternoon Mark is none the wiser as Faye and Ryan move into Tennant's house. Ryan questions her motives for being there, but what is Faye really planning?

Meanwhile, Debbie prepares for her holiday with Sarah and warns Cain not to cause trouble with Andy while they're gone. Andy is overjoyed when Debbie allows him to join her and Sarah at the park.

Elsewhere, John takes Adam to begin work on the farm. As the other Barton's settle into their new home, Moira splits up an argument between her daughters over the bedroom situation and reminds them that they'll have to share once their nan comes to stay. John tells the family that he's been summoned for a meeting with Nathan and speculates on the reason for it. Later, the Barton's are welcomed into the pub by Diane and begin to fall under the scrutiny of their new neighbours. Will their opinion of the Emmerdale residents be a positive one?

Tuesday 21st July

Faye makes her introductions to the villagers as well as a reluctant Ryan. Faye ropes in an eager Doug to help with the unloading and watches an oblivious Mark go about his business. Ryan seethes when she mentions she's a friend of the Wyldes and warns his mother that the move to Emmerdale will only bring trouble. Faye explains that she hasn't moved because of Mark, but Ryan isn't interested and knows she's still after him. Overhearing a discussion in the pub, Mark is horrified to find out that Faye has moved into Tennant's house. He's unable to hold a conversation with Faye due to Doug's presence but his face tells the whole story. Have Mark's problems only just begun?

Thinking Butler's farm is empty Zak, Sam and Shadrach steal a herd of sheep. Shadrach draws the short straw but fails to master the art of butchery. As the animal makes a break for freedom Lisa is greeted with the sight of the source of their dinner and demands an explanation. Seeing through their excuse that they were wandering the dales alone, Lisa insists they're returned to their owners. Shadrach alters the identification tags as a way of disguising them from their owners but Lisa is unsure it will work. Can the Dingles hide the sheep from the Barton's?

Also, the sight of Nathan impresses both Holly and Hannah when he arrives to meet with John. However, he's trumped when John informs him he can't supply the Home Farm shop due to existing commitments with major retailers. News of the sheep theft snaps John into action and he takes Adam to investigate. The Barton's take Andy up on the offer of helping him look for their missing sheep. John later offers Andy a few hours work on the farm which Andy agrees to think about. Is John making a wise move involving Andy in the farm?

Wednesday 22nd July

Cain refuses to employ Ryan, but his interest is piqued when he notices him with Faye. Not one to miss an opportunity, Cain wonders aloud to Mark how Natasha would react to seeing his bit on the side living in the village. After trying hard to get hold of Faye all day, Mark marches her out of the Woolpack set for an argument. Mark angrily questions what Faye is doing in the village and she states that it's the perfect opportunity for Mark to bond with his son. Mark protests, but is horrified at the depth of her vitriol as she asserts he ruined her life so what's to stop her doing the same to him. Can Mark contain Faye's next move?

Meanwhile, the Dingles get a shearer round to fleece the sheep and then arrange for them to be sold to a local farmer. However, Shadrach bodges up the deal and the Dingles fail to sell the sheep and then make very little profit from the sheepskins. After a conversation with Andy, Lisa is astounded to discover Zak has stolen the sheep from Butler's farm. Zak tries to assuage her and says that if the Barton's have lost livestock, they will probably be in the market for replacements. Zak forms a plan to make some money, but will the Barton's fall for his scheme?

At the Woolpack, Diane is rushed off her feet when Val swans off with Pollard. In desperation she asks Rodney to help behind the bar. Val returns and voices her annoyance with the decision but Diane argues she had no choice. Are Val's protestations well founded?

Thurdsay 23rd July

Zak and John come to an agreement over the sheep, but John is wise to their scheming when he notices they've been sheared and the ID tags have been tampered with. However, Aaron thinks the Barton's have got one over on the Dingle's when John takes a piglet in compensation.

Later that day Aaron notices Rodney's new van rolling towards the Home Farm shop, after Rodney forgets to put the hand brake on. Panic sets in when Aaron can't stop the van and despite John's help there's nothing they can do. John warns Aaron to jump but the van ends up crashing into the Home Farm shop with Leyla, Ryan and Doug still inside. Has tragedy struck the village?

Doug and Leyla panic in the destroyed shop as they realise Ryan isn't moving. Outside the shop Faye frantically tries to discover if Ryan's ok and has to be held back by Cain. A rescue effort is coordinated and Mark is aghast to hear that his secret son is in danger.

Diving through the back of the van Mark discovers that Ryan is struggling to breathe and orders Cain and John to get a tractor in order to move the debris. As the structural integrity of the building begins to fail Mark tenderly wipes the blood from his son's face and assures him everything will be ok. Cain gets behind the wheel of the van while John drives his tractor. Between them they clear the van, allowing the rescue party to file in. Ryan, Leyla and Doug are rescued and when Nathan belatedly arrives he questions his father's act of heroism.

Mark lies that he wasn't thinking but Faye knows differently. Doug and Leyla are taken to the hospital but are fine. Ryan's injuries are slightly more severe but he's also going to be alright. When they return from hospital Mark checks that Ryan is feeling ok. Faye quietly suggests that real heroism would be to tell their son the truth. Will Mark defy Natasha and come clean to his son?

Chas is furious with Aaron who she blames for the accident so he legs it from the scene. Words spreads amongst the rescue party that Aaron was responsible. Chas becomes concerned for Aaron when he's nowhere to be found and considers that his reaction to the accident may have been one of fear, not guilt.

Holly discovers Aaron lingering on the village outskirts and he's pleased to attract the attention of a good-looking girl. Back in the village John explains to Chas that Aaron wasn't responsible for the crash, but Chas isn't sure what to believe. John repeats his belief to the police, incurring Mark and Nathan's wrath for defending a Dingle. Nathan confronts the Dingles and John in the Woolpack later and realises he's fighting a united front. He backs off but protests that Aaron will get his comeuppance.

Rodney is horrified to discover Nicola was near the vicinity of the accident and worries he's hurt the baby. Nicola insists she's ok and drags Rodney to the pub so he can calm down. Nicola tries to comfort Rodney but he is inconsolable. He's interviewed by the police later and tells them he's certain he left the handbrake on. Diane comforts Rodney as he worries for Nicola and her baby.

Friday 24th July

Mark is rattled to witness Nathan inviting Ryan for a drink in the pub. Back at Home Farm Mark bumps into Sam who is picking flowers ahead of the anniversary of Alice's death. They talk and Sam explains the depth of love he feels for Samson and how you feel a different level of emotion for your first born.

His words inadvertently strike a chord with Mark who is thinking about Ryan. Later, Mark watches the boys having their drink and Faye snipes that Mark will always feel something for their son. Faye is unnerved when Mark is waiting at her home for her and he demands she leave the village. Faye regains her composure when Cain arrives to check everything is OK. Mark leaves but Faye makes it clear to Cain she doesn't need his help. Will she change her mind if Mark bothers her again?

Elsewhere, John's reputation in the village is growing after his heroic role in the rescue attempt. Moira and Holly are having some lunch in the Woolpack when the latter notices Aaron with the other Dingles. She follows him outside and compliments him on his actions with the van yesterday. Aaron's chuffed with the attention. Back in the pub Zak invites John to drink with them to thank him for sticking up for Aaron. John refuses on the grounds that the Dingles stole from him and Zak coolly regards a new potential rival. Are the Dingle/Barton squabbles just beginning?
