Preeya Kalidas to join 'EastEnders'
Tuesday, 17 March 2009
Preeya Kalidas is set to join the cast of 'EastEnders'.
The 'Mistresses' actress will shortly join the popular BBC1 soap as Amira, the girlfriend of Zainab Masood's eldest son Syed, played by Marc Elliot.
She said: "I can't wait for this exciting adventure - to be part of a much-loved and respected TV show. My family have watched EastEnders for years."
But Albert Square viewers can expect to see tempers flare as her onscreen boyfriend tries to patch things up with his estranged family - mother Zainab (Nina Wadia) and father Masood Ahmed (Nitin Ganatra).
A source said: "The main issue is that Amira is a high-maintenance diva who loves the high life. Meanwhile, Zainab wonders if Amira is good enough for her son. They won't get on at all."
The soap's executive producer Diederick Santer is thrilled to have the beauty on board and insists she is going to cause her fair share of drama to the Square.
He said: "Preeya's a talented and gorgeous actress. I can't wait to see what happens when Amira comes on the screen."
Amira makes her entrance on the soap in May.
