Danny - renowned for roles as 'hard man' characters - is allegedly being lined up by the soap's bosses to become a major new character.

A show insider said: "Danny is ideal for 'EastEnders'. He's actually from the East End of London- and still lives there - and he's got the whole geezer thing going on."

Danny has already enjoyed a successful film career - often playing unstable and violent characters - appearing in movies including 'The Football Factory' and 'Mean Machine', as well as 'Human Traffic' and 'High Heels and Low Lives'.

He has also had TV roles in 'Skins', 'Soldier Soldier' and 'A Touch of Frost' as well as hosting documentaries about the criminal underworld.

A spokesperson for the BBC confirmed Danny has met with drama chief John Yorke, but said nothing has so far been agreed.

The spokesperson said: "It's very early days. No role has been offered to him."
