David Tennant has been crowned Greenest Star at Playhouse Disney's Playing for the Planet Awards.

The 'Doctor Who' star - who drives an environmentally friendly hybrid car - has beaten celebrities from a shortlist including Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Watson and Sienna Miller in the survey, voted for by families across the UK.

Former 'Blue Peter' presenter Peter Duncan, a judge at the awards, said: "I am delighted that David Tennant has won the Greenest Star award - he's a great role model for kids everywhere and clearly is as passionate at saving the planet as his character 'The Doctor'.

"As we enter the final judging stage for the rest of the categories, I'm looking forward to seeing some fantastic entries from eco-heroes all over the country."

The Playing for the Planet Awards aims to reward people across the country who are doing their bit to help the environment, whether in a big or small way.

The campaign was launched last year, created after research found parents in the UK are desperate to find ways to teach their young children about the environment and ways to stay green.
