David Tennant's fan ban
Friday, 25 July 2008
'Doctor Who' fans have been banned from asking David Tennant to sign the TV show's merchandise at his theatre production.
The 37-year-old actor - who has played the Time Lord in the hit UK TV series since 2005 - is starring in the Royal Shakespeare Company's latest staging of 'Hamlet', but production bosses have warned fans the actor will not be signing 'Doctor Who' memorabilia at the stage door.
A statement from the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) said: "Due to the huge amount of interest in the RSC's current production of 'Hamlet', only Royal Shakespeare Company or production related memorabilia will be signed by members of the company.
"It is very flattering that there is so much interest in this production, but the sheer volume of requests means that we need to set some limits which will be as fair as possible for everyone.
"We apologise if this causes any disappointment."
The news has also come as a blow to 'Star Trek' fans, as Patrick Stewart - who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the hit sci-fi shows and movies - stars alongside David in the production.
'Doctor Who' fans have been eagerly snapping up tickets to see Tennant play the Danish prince, with some selling for an impressive £215 on auction website eBay.
The theatre show is due to open at Stratford-Upon-Avon's Courtyard theatre on August 5.
