Michael Barrymore - What Really Happened
Tuesday, 29 April 2008
The second programme in a three-part series as journalist Jacques Peretti delves deep into the worlds of three iconic stories of our time to find out What Really Happened.
Early on the morning of Saturday 31 March 2001, 31-year-old Stuart Lubbock was found dead in the swimming pool of TV star Michael Barrymore in Roydon, Essex.
While paramedics tried to revive Stuart, one notable member of the ad-hoc party was absent: the host and star attraction of the evening, Michael Barrymore.
Jacques Peretti travels to the heart of Essex to examine what happened on that fateful night that ended in Stuart's death and helped bring about the end of Barrymore's glittering career.
Through the events of that night, Jacques gains insight not just into the personal demons of a fallen entertainment icon, but also into the contradictory worlds Barrymore tried to straddle: shiny floor glitz versus the gay scene; his sexuality versus the hard machismo image of Essex.
This episode is on CHANNEL 4, Tuesday 29 April 2008 @ 10-11.05pm.
