Becky tells Steve that her solicitor wants to see him at lunchtime but Steve is concerned about how he is going to get away without
arousing suspicions with Michelle.
Michelle catches him sneaking out of the pub and asks where he is going forcing Steve to lie. But the cat is nearly let out of the bag by a careless Lloyd.
Later, Jason asks Becky if they can try again but she chucks him out of the café. She then goes to find Steve to see how his visit with the solicitor went. Lloyd sees them together but wishes he hadn't when Steve gives him a hard time when he asks what Becky wanted.
The next day, Steve rings Becky to reassure her that he will be in court for her on Wednesday. But he soon discovers that isn't going to be easy. Michelle's parents are coming over for their anniversary and she wants to throw a party for them. Becky is devastated when she discovers that she has lost her star witness.
Steve is relieved when Michelle announces that she is taking her mum and dad out in the morning which is just the solution that Steve and Becky need to allow him to go to the court case. But his relief is short lived when Michelle presents him with a list of things to do whilst she is out tomorrow.
As the day continues Becky is faced with more and more evidence of how much she is asking Steve to risk and after hearing Liz talking about how Michelle has grown on her and Barry saying how much Steve is part of the Connor family, Becky reaches a difficult decision.
Time is running out for Becky
It is the day of Becky's court case and she is convinced that without Steve to testify she will definitely go down. Steve meanwhile knows he should be grateful that he doesn't have to go to court but somehow it doesn't feel that way.
As the time of the case draws nearer Steve tries desperately to get away but it seems everything is conspiring against him. When he does get to the court he is frustrated to discover the case has been postponed to the afternoon and he has to resort to desperate measures to get there.
Once on the witness stand he is stunned to see Blanche in the public gallery - but committed to helping Becky he surprises himself and everyone else with the heartfelt character witness and alibi he gives. As Becky is acquitted Steve tries to to convince Blanche that he was merely helping out a friend but when Becky comes out of court his real emotions take over - and they end up in bed together!
Steve regrets Becky sex
Steve is desperate to see Becky but feels very guilty when Michelle thanks him for making her parents' anniversary a success.
The day continues to get harder for him when Becky comes into the pub and offers to do a shift for him so he can spend some time with Michelle's dad. But he flips when Jason arrives at the Rovers with a gift for Becky and embarrasses her with an outburst about what a rat Jason was.
