Graeme Hawley bored in prison

Monday, 9 November 2009

Graeme Hawley said he felt like he was going crazy shooting so many prison scenes in 'Coronation Street'.

The actor's character, teacher John Stape, ended up behind bars after having an affair with Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan), one of his students, who he kidnapped.

He said he has since endured sleepless nights worrying his character might return to jail again.

Graeme said: "I wake up at night and there's my prison outfit at the end of the bed!

"Acting my scenes in prison did become a bit like 'Groundhog Day.' I was sitting in jail for about four months. It was the same set -the same tables, the same chair and the same pale blue jumper and grey jogging bottoms.

"I'm not particularly fashion conscious, but I was craving a different kind of top. I kept trying to accessorise, but they wouldn't let me!"

On Wednesday (11.11.09) viewers will see John being released from prison - and Graeme said he can't wait to get back on the street.

He said: "It's great to be walking and talking. I couldn't do both initially to be honest after so long doing scenes in prison! It took me a few hours to get up to speed."
