Chris Gascoyne forgets screen son's age
Tuesday, 27 October 2009
Chris Gascoyne says his on-screen son already acts like he's been doing it for years.
The 'Coronation Street' actor - who plays recovering alcoholic Peter Barlow in the ITV soap - said he forgets just how young his son, played by eight-year-old newcomer Alex Bain, is.
He said: "After each scene, he gives Anthony Valentine, who plays George, and Bill Roach (Ken) a kiss and a cuddle, and tells them well done. Alex really is like a little old man himself sometimes!"
The 41-year-old star said Alex - who plays Simon Barlow - thought all his Christmases had come at once when he won the gong for Best Young Actor at this year's Inside Soap Awards.
He said: "He couldn't wait to come in and tell me all about it the day after it happened. He said, 'I've got something to tell you, I've won an award.'
"To wind him up, I said, 'You didn't! It must have been for someone else.' He was so made up about it, though, so I was quick to tell him not to go getting a big head!"
