Celeb Air - Phil Cornwell to serve Jack Nicholson?
Monday, 1 September 2008

Phil reveals all...
How I feel about taking part in CelebAir?
"There is a certain trepidation which everyone has. I'm beginning to realise now, after all the training, that I am looking forward to it. I don't know what it will be like once we're on the plane doing an actual flight. That will be the interesting thing! All you can hope is that you're prepared to do a good enough job to keep you on the show. I think it's about how you carry out the service, not just how charming you can be."
Am I excited or nervous?
"I would initially say I would be more nervous about going up in the air as crew, but I've got a feeling that the check-in is not going to be the doddle you might think it could be! Also, you have a mix of celebrities and the paying public and the celebrities are carrying out the subservient role. Egos will be out of the window!"
Any holiday disasters?
"I experienced some turbulence where the plane dropped severely which is a bit alarming. The voice you hear over the PA is very reassuring, however, and after doing all out training I'm reassured by the knowledge that the crew know how to handle emergency situations. There is so much to it.
"Before I started this show, I though it was about serving a few drinks and a bag of nuts and telling you where the exits are, but seeing it from the other side, the drills, the different types of fires that could happen and all the various aspects they cover in safety is mind boggling."
My three travel essentials?
"When I'm on the road it would be a Jack Kerouac novel, always, it's like a comfort blanket."
If I could serve any famous passenger?
"Jack Nicholson, without hesitation. I would not want to serve anybody who's really drunk! Alcohol has a devastating affect at 35,000 feet, that's something we've been taught."
