Jamie Pugh's audition lie

Wednesday, 6 May 2009

Jamie Pugh has previously performed in front of an audience of 1,000 at a West End theatre.

The 'Britain's Got Talent' contestant - who wowed fans with his emotional rendition of 'Bring Him Home' from musical 'Les Miserables' on Saturday's show (02.05.09) - had previously insisted he was so crippled by stage fright he had never been able to sing before a crowd.

However, a member of the audience who saw Jamie take to the stage at London's Her Majesty's theatre in 2006 told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "I couldn't believe it when I saw him on 'Britain's Got Talent' saying he had never performed in front of an audience before.

"I remember his performance going down really well - and he didn't look like he was suffering from stage fright then."

Pizza delivery man Jamie performed with a group of other singers at a weekly event for new talent held at the theatre.

He also sang a solo rendition of Louis Armstrong's hit 'What A Wonderful World'.

The night's programme said: "This is Jamie's first foray into the world of musical theatre and marks his first public appearance.

"He has dreamed of making this journey ever since he was a boy, when he saw 'Les Miserables' in London."

On the ITV talent show, Jamie told judge Simon Cowell he had never sung in front of a large audience before because he suffered so badly from nerves.

He said: "I suffer severe stage fright. It crippled me really. I've come through today to see if I can get through three minutes."

When confronted with the new claims, Jamie said: "I have previously performed as part of a group but I never sang alone. It didn't go that well."
