Britain's Got Talent - Simon Cowell thought Signature had won

Tuesday, 3 June 2008

Simon Cowell didn't think dancer George Sampson would win Saturday's final.

The music mogul thought Suleman Mirza and Madhu Singh would win once Ant and Dec revealed they were in the top two alongside schoolboy George Sampson.

He explained all to the official Britain's Got Talent website: "He (Geoge) clawed his way to the top.

"It was one of the great moments of live TV when it was announced because I didn't know who had won and I was going to call it Signature at that point.

"It was a shock for me and everyone else...it was just a thrilling moment for him."

As soon as the winner was announced Simon stood up and said: "George let me tell you, you are the dancing version of Rocky young man.

"You deserve everything because you battled your way to the top. Congratulations."

After the show Simon told the cameras: "The final was incredible. it was without question the closest competition I've ever judged."
