Gangster threat Alexandra thrown off Big Brother

Thursday, 19 June 2008

In a remarkable first for Big Brother, housemate Alexandra De-Gale has been removed from the house for intimidating other housemates.

Channel 4 say the Croydon mum was thrown off the show "for repeatedly breaking the programme's rules on conduct by behaving in an unacceptable and sometimes intimidating manner towards fellow housemates."

But the straw that broke the camel's back for producers was when she allegedly threatened the other contestants with punishment from "gangster friends" once they got out of the house.

As a result the first eviction of the ninth series - in which Alexandra was up for the chop against Mario Marconi - due to take place on Friday, has been cancelled.

Alexandra looked a dead-cert to be evicted though, being one of the shortest prices ever for a Big Brother head-to-head eviction.

And even before she was nominated, Alexandra was the least favourite housemate ever in terms of her betting odds to win the show - an incredible 125/1!

The incident which led to Alexandra being removed from the house occurred in the living room shortly after 10.15pm on Tuesday evening.

The 23 year-old was in discussion with American albino Darnell Swallow in close proximity to a number of other housemates.

Then, whilst talking about the fact that she was up for eviction, she is reported to have said to him: "personal offence is never forgotten, do you know what I mean?

"We are just inside the house. I've got a very, very, very, very, very strong team outside the house.

"I just can't wait to see my mans and them and see what their plans are, who they got...

"I'm not talking about those mans, I'm talking about my gangster friends. They got some instructions to follow out."

Soon after, Scottish dancer Dennis McHugh, chef Rex Newmark and Coventry lass Rebecca Shiner discussed her comments in the garden and agreed that they found her behaviour to be threatening,

Rex then repeated the group's concerns during a Diary Room discussion with Big Brother.

The incident follows a long line of arguments that Alexandra was involved in since the show started on 5th June.

She began by kicking off on no less than 4 housemates over some burnt chips on day seven, and the most recent of her outbursts was when she reportedly told fellow Muslim Mohamed that he had "disgraced" himself and Islam by cross-dressing and wearing make-up

Prior to being called into the Diary Room for the final time, Alexandra had twice been summoned there to be reminded by Big Brother of the rules governing behaviour towards other housemates.

The official Big Brother website states: "There has been a strong negative reaction from viewers to Alex's behaviour with Channel 4 having received a significant number of comments since launch."

Angela Jain, Head of E4 and Big Brother at Channel 4, said: "Alex has said her comments were not intended seriously and has apologised, but those comments will be widely interpreted as having been intended to intimidate.

"Big Brother has very clear rules about housemates conduct and that kind of behaviour is simply not acceptable.

"Other housemates have said they found her comments to be threatening and we believe that is a reasonable conclusion for them to have reached given the way Alex has behaved previously.

"She had already been spoken to twice about her behaviour and, like all housemates, was clearly informed before entering the house that she faced eviction if she acted in an unacceptable manner."

Alexandra's latest remarks were not screened via the 'as live' streaming on E4 but were reported up to senior production staff.

Viewers will be able to see her thrown off the show in the Big Brother highlights show on Channel 4 at 9pm tonight.
