Channel 4 won't evict Big Brother
Monday, 8 September 2008
The recently-ended Big Brother 9 got the lowest viewing figures in the show's history, but fears that a tenth series will be axed by Channel 4 have been quashed by the TV station.
The live final of Big Brother 9 peaked at an audience of 5.3 million viewers on Friday night - almost 4 million viewers shy of what previous finals have invited.
And average viewers across the entire summer-long series are drastically down on previous years too.
A Channel 4 spokesperson commented: "This year's Big Brother has regularly delivered an audience of around three million viewers - even after nine years on air, it is still right up there among our highest rating programmes.
"No other programme delivers us such a consistent, sizeable audience and we are incredibly pleased with its performance. We look forward to celebrating ten years of Big Brother next year."

Big Brother superfan Emma Powell said: "I thought this was the best series yet so I can only say those who turned off this year have missed out on one hell of a Big Brother!
"I think it's like any show that's been on a while though - the format hasn't changed drastically since Big Brother 1 so naturally a percentage of viewers are going to tire of watching it year-in year-out.
"I certainly hope next year brings a better winner. I can't understand how anyone would vote for Rachel, she was so boring."
Welsh teacher Rachel Rice won Friday's final by a whisker over blind Scot Mikey Hughes.
Rachel's said she may pose nude too... so perhaps she's not that boring.
