Big Brother 9 housemates

Sixteen housemates entered the Big Brother house on day one, and many more will enter over the forthcoming 92 days.

We have the lowdown on all of them here...

Alexandra De-Gale
Alexandra is a 23 year-old accounts executive from Croydon, London. Alexandra was raised as a Christian but a few years ago converted to Islam. She describes herself as quirky, outgoing and a go-getter, and hates to be bored. She also has a seven-year-old daughter.

Belinda Harris-Reid
Belinda is a 44 year-old theatre director from Exeter, Devon. Belinda was born in Kampala, Uganda and lived in East Africa until the age of 11. She is married with two sons, loves jazz singing and being by the sea.

Dale Howard
Dale is a 21 year-old student and part-time DJ from Liverpool. Although he is a physical education teacher, Dale has admitted that he doesn't like kids and would rather play football. He tried out for Manchester United and Wigan Athletic Football Clubs but neither took him on professionally. The strangest job he ever had was in a garlic factory. He claims he lasted 45 minutes.

Darnell Swallow
Darnell, an ethnically black albino, is a 26 year-old songwriter from London. Although he was born in Ipswich, Darnell grew up in St. Louis, Missouri until being deported after becoming involved in gang culture.

Dennis McHugh
Dennis is a 23 year-old dance teacher from Edinburgh. He says that if he could make any law, it would be that everyone must wear fake tan. His his dream job is to be a dancer, and then perhaps a personal shopper.

Jennifer Clark
Jennifer is a 22 year-old model from Chester-le-Street, Durham. She says being the mother of her 22-month-old daughter has made her the proudest person in the world. The most expensive thing she's ever bought is a Vivienne Westwood handbag which cost £400.

Kathreya Kasisopa
Kathreya is a 30 year-old Thai massage therapist, who relocated from Thailand to the UK seven years ago. She has an obsession with cookies, carrying a cookie jar with her wherever she goes. Kathreya is a Buddhist, believes strongly in karma, and will do anything to avoid an argument.

Lisa Appleton
Lisa is a 40 year-old civil servant from Warrington. She is a former bodybuilder is a fitness and health fanatic and has an 18-year-old daughter. She is in a three year relationship with fellow housemate Mario.

Luke Marsden
Luke is a 20 year-old student and part-time pro-wrestling announcer from Wigan. He is a proud supporter of the Conservative Party. He doesn't smoke, drink, do drugs or swear. He reckons a typical weekend night out would be going to the wrestling, Pizza Hut, bowling or the cinema.

Mario Marconi
Mario is a 42 year-old civil servant from Warrington. He was christened Shaun but changed his name to Mario to suit his image. Mario entered the house on Day 1 with his partner Lisa; they were the first housemates to enter the House this series. Mario claims to have slept with over 200 women and says he had his heart broken by Miss Copenhagen when he was 18. Mario is in a three year relationship with fellow housemate Lisa.

Maysoon Shaladi
Maysoon is a 28 year-old model from Hertfordshire. She has appeared in music videos for RnB artists Sean Paul, Ludacris and Simon Webbe. She labels herself 'single' but she's been on and off with her boyfriend for nine years - and they're now on a break.

Michael 'Mikey' Hughes
Big Brother's first ever blind housemate, Michael or 'Mikey' as he likes to be known, is a 33 year-old radio producer from Ayrshire. He lost his sight during an operation in 1998. Immediately after entering the house, bookmakers across the UK installed him as favourite to win this year's show.

Mohamed Mohamed
Mohamed is a 23 year-old toy demonstrator from London. He was born in Somalia and then moved to Kenya, Yeman, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Dubai before moving to the UK with his family.

Nicole Cammack
Nicole is a 19 year old student from Surrey. She is Rex's girlfriend and entered the house as the 57th of Big Brother's ever-changing special prizes.

Rachel Rice
Rachel is a 24 year-old trainee teacher from Torfaen in Wales. She appeared in a film called Night Train to Venice with High Grant when she was younger and was a runner up in the 2003 Miss Wales contest. She has appeared in around 20 television commercials globally, including the Sony Handicam's 'Fairies at the Bottom of the Garden' in 1991.

Rebecca Shiner
Rebecca is a 21 year old nursery nurse from Coventry. She is fond of many former boy bands, especially the American group Hanson. Her Midlands accent and non-stop talking have led to Rebecca being likened to Little Britain's Vicky Pollard.

Rex Newmark
Rex is a 24 year old chef from Hampstead. He claims that his proudest moment was winning a culinary challenge in college. He still lives with his parents and gets all his meals cooked by the family housekeeper.

Sara Folino
Sara is a 27 year-old personal assistant originally from Melbourne, Australia, but living in London for the last five years. Sara has a twin brother but she hasn't seen him since her father kicked her out of the family home over five years ago.

Stephanie McMichael
Stephanie is a 19-year-old student from Liverpool. In 2002, Stephanie was disqualified from Popstars: The Rivals, the show that created Girls Aloud, for being too young. Stephanie rates herself 10 out of 10 for looks.

Stuart Pilkington
Stuart is a 25 year-old personal trainer turned property developer from Cheshire. He has a five year-old daughter. Stuart entered the Big Brother house on Day 16, as a replacement for Alexandra, who was removed for persistent rule-breaking.

Sylvia Barrie
Sylvia is a 21-year-old student who fled to the UK from the Sierra Leone Civil War when she was 11. She describes herself as a devout Catholic, who prays daily and attends church regularly. She regards her mother as her best friend. Sylvia says the cruelest thing that she has ever done to another person is cutting up all their clothes.
