Simon Cowell wants Paula Abdul back on American Idol.

The pop star turned reality TV judge has reportedly been snubbed by show bosses after she was not offered a contract for the ninth series of the US singing talent search show.

Paula's manager, David Sonenberg, confirmed: "Very sadly it doesn't appear that she's going to be back on 'American Idol'."

He added he thought it "rude and disrespectful" the programme's makers hadn't told Paula of their intentions to drop her from the panel - which also includes Simon, Randy Jackson and Singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi.

David added: "Paula's not a happy camper as a result of what's going on. She's hurt. She's angry."

Head judge Simon has insisted all the panellists will return to the show and he wants Paula to appear, but admitted the final decision doesn't entirely rest with him.

He said: "I don't get a lot of say. I've just made it clear that I want Paula on the show."

Fans have already started campaigning on the internet to get Paula back on the show, which she has appeared on since 2002, and she has posted a message of thanks on her blog to those supporting her.

Paula wrote: "If it weren't for you, this specific time and situation would feel a lot worse!"

Simon was last week reported to be in negotiations with US TV network FOX - which broadcasts 'American Idol' - for a £100 million-a-year deal to continue on the show, which would make him the highest paid TV star in history.

The show's host, Ryan Seacrest, has also reportedly negotiated a £30 million contract to continue hosting the show.

The latest series of 'American Idol' starts on August 6.
