Nigel Lythgoe may replace Simon Cowell as a judge on 'American Idol'.
The 'So You Think You Can Dance' panellist has been linked with the show as a replacement for Simon when he leaves - after the present series of the show - to bring his own talent series 'The X Factor' to the US.
Nigel has experience with the format as he was the original sharp-tongued judge when 'American Idol' boss Simon Fuller first launched the reality TV star search format in the UK in 2000 with 'Popstars'.
Nigel is presently appearing as a judge on the UK version of 'So You Think You Can Dance'.
Meanwhile Simon is said to have received interest in joining the judging panel on his rival show from Jay-Z, Kelly Osbourne, Paula Abdul and Cheryl Cole.
While he remains tight lipped about who he will chose for the show, he said he's had much interest, saying: "You'll have to wait and see. It's interesting. Ever since we made the announcement, everyone's been on the phone."
However, while there are big names in the running to appear on 'The X Factor' US, a source close to the show denied reports Victoria Beckham - who is managed by Fuller - is in talks to appear as a judge, commanding a fee of $1 million a show.
A source said: "There is no way Victoria would get a judge's role on 'The X Factor'. Simon Cowell doesn't want her to do it."
