Arista drops American Idol's Blake Lewis
Friday, 27 June 2008
Former American Idol hopeful Blake Lewis has become the latest star of the hit karaoke talent show to get dropped by his record label.
The season six runner-up - famous for his human beatbox antics - has joined Idol winners Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard on the chopping block after losing his deal with Arista Records.
Fellow runner-up Katherine McPhee has also been dropped from her label.
An Arista Records spokesperson said: "Arista Records will not be picking up Blake’s option and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
The move comes following disappointing sales of Blake's debut album Audio Day Dream.
Blake told MTV news: "I don’t think I got shafted — they treated me well. It’s just that the industry is eating itself alive.
"There are only three major labels left, and I have experienced the deterioration of the industry.
"I guess in the world of radio, selling 300,000 is not a success. I beg to differ.
"I couldn’t be happier, and my fans are amazing and super-supportive.”
