Steve Carrell's smart sequel

Steve Carrell has signed up for 'Get Smart 2'.

The actor will reprise his role as hapless secret agent Maxwell Smart in the sequel, though it has not been confirmed if he will be joined by original co-stars Anne Hathaway and Alan Arkin.

In another move for the funnyman, he has signed a three-year first-look deal with Warner Bros. and formed Carousel Productions, to be based at Warners, with friends Vince DeGeneres and Charlie Hartsock to work on film projects, both to star in and to direct.

He told Variety: "My idea was to partner with friends of mine, people I trusted, with whom I share a certain sensibility.

"I have some ideas for films, but I've gotten to know so many people who are funny, talented and fertile with ideas that I'm confident this very strong base of friendships will lead to projects."
