Robert Carlyle's Doctor dream
Wednesday, 3 December 2008
Robert Carlyle would love to the new 'Doctor Who'.
The Scottish actor - who was most recently seen in TV movie '24: Redemption' - admits he is keen to take over from current Doctor David Tennant in the hit sci-fi show.
Robert, 47, said: "I've been tipped as the new Doctor for the past couple of years. However, no-one from the BBC has actually approached me and I never wanted to talk about it because you cannot talk about another actor's part.
"I would treat playing the Doctor with respect, but I would have to be approached first."
Robert has the backing of Steven Moffat - who will take over from chief writer Russell T. Davies when he leaves after next year's four specials - who recently revealed he thinks they should go for an older star for the role.
He said: "Although I loved Peter Davison and Paul McGann, probably the best two actors in the role, I don't think young dashing Doctors are right at all. He should be 40-plus and weird-looking - the kind of wacky grandfather kids know on sight to be secretly one of them."
Steven also said he doesn't think the role should be taken on by an unknown actor, adding: "Any actor with the 'right stuff' is unlikely to be completely unknown."
