Nigella Lawson's curry feast

Nigella Lawson's curry feast

Thursday, 4 December 2008

Nigella Lawson would be happy to eat "chips and curry" this Christmas.

The TV chef - who, last year, advised cooks to bake their roast potatoes in goose fat to make them more tasty for their festive feasts - admits she is planning a more low-key meal for the special day.

Nigella, who is nicknamed the 'Domestic Goddess', said: "You don't have to do the whole domestic goddess thing to revel in the solace of the hearth.

"If you want to put up fairy lights everywhere and then get pizza delivered, that's absolutely OK by me. I'd never say no to chips and curry sauce - I have very low tastes. Just that, a nice drink and some nice friends and I'd be happy."

The 48-year-old beauty - who has two children - also said she finds it stressful organising everything for Christmas.

She added to Radio Times magazine: "It's an incredibly high-pressure time of year for women. I think it would be an extreme act of cruelty to imply that you can have a stress-free Christmas. Because there's no such thing.

"Wrapping presents, for example, is the thing that sends me over the edge. I always get my hair stuck under the sellotape, which is disgusting for the person opening the present. And it's not always possible to get succour from someone on television saying, 'Well, I find this terribly easy!' "

Nigella's new book 'Nigella Christmas' is out now.
