Kanye West's auto defence

Kanye West's auto defence

Kanye West has defended using Auto-Tune to improve his singing.

The 'Stronger' rapper has used the technology on new album '808s and Heartbreak', with critics arguing it masks his "weak" vocals, but the star insists he loves the results the software gave him.

He is quoted as saying: "I get a lot of backlash for using Auto-Tune because it's a tool people use when they can't sing. What it does for me, if I sing off-key, it really points that out.

"It points out the bad notes. So what I have to do is sing more perfect."

50 Cent recently criticised his rival's new direction, advising him to stick with rapping rather than singing, but conceded the album was "interesting"

He added: "I heard, like, seven songs. There's a place for it. I think people will enjoy it if you're actually in love or going through something. I think Kanye's going through an interesting point in his career.

"I don't think the public will forgive him for it, but it's interesting."
