Shia LaBeouf says filming 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' was a dangerous experience.

The actor, who stars as Sam Witwicky in the second instalment of the warring robot saga, says the film's battle scenes were created on an almost too realistic scale.

Shia, 22, said: "During filming I've got 75 military officers firing at me, shrapnel falling on my head that's bigger than my arms. It's hard to be normal.

"Even an eyelash flying at you at 700 miles an hour will cut you. You're running past them, and your clearance is only about 10 feet. These dudes are moving, and if one trips or falls and we run into the muzzle of a blank, that could blow your chest open or burn you."

Megan Fox - who appears alongside Shia as his girlfriend Mikaela Banes - agrees, saying she was "genuinely terrified" by the experience.

She said: "It makes you run fast because you are genuinely terrified. And you still feel blanks - with that many guns going off, you never really know."

Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Bishop, who acted as the film's Army liaison, said the concept behind the production was startling, and on a scale he hadn't seen before.

He remarked: "As far as I know, this is the biggest joint military operation movie ever made, in terms of Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. I can't think of one that's bigger."

'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' is scheduled for release in June next year.
