Black Eyed Peas' CD worry
Monday, 13 October 2008
Black Eyed Peas are to rush release their new album because they believe people are going to stop buying CDs.
The band are currently completing work on 'The E.N.D.' - which stands for 'Energy Never Dies' - and say they are currently thinking about putting it on sale before the end of the year as they fear 2009 will be too late.
Frontman will.i.am told Billboard: "I'm tempted to try and release it in 2008 because I'm convinced that this will be the final year where physical sales are significant.
"For the last remaining stores that sell CDs, this is the last Christmas that CDs will be in stores. It's f***ing scary."
However, the rapper says the band are keen to embrace digital technology and want to make their music as interactive as possible.
He explained: "I'm tired of making songs for the radio and for MTV. You should make songs for where songs are actually being listened and played. We have new people - software programmers. They are just as important as me, apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie. That's us, the visual members.
"But nowadays it isn't just physical with music and content anymore - you have to have proprietary software. Just borrowing other people's s**t doesn't empower the growth and how you monetise that content, so that's why it's important that we got a software guy that is part of the Peas."
