Roger Moore's Bond blast
Thursday, 13 November 2008
Roger Moore has blasted James Bond, saying the spy movies have become "too violent".
The 81-year-old actor - who played the British spy in movies from 1973 to 1985 - insists the latest film in the franchise, 'Quantum of Solace', focuses too much on the character's dark side.

Roger - whose interpretation of Bond is best remembered for his quips and suaveness - said: "I am happy to have done it, but I'm sad that it has turned so violent. That's keeping up with the times, it's what cinema-goers seem to want and it's proved by the box-office figures."
The veteran star - who recently released his memoir 'My Word is My Bond' - also revealed he was encouraged to explore the character's more violent side in 1974 movie 'The Man With the Golden Gun'.
However, he admits he baulked when told the spy had to threaten to break actress Maud Adams' character's arm in a bid to extract information from her.
He added: "That sort of characterisation didn't sit well with me, but the director Guy Hamilton was keen to make Bond more ruthless.
"I suggested my Bond would have charmed the information out of her by bedding her first. My Bond was a lover and a giggler, but I went along with Guy."
