Myron took the animal in as a pet and he soon became a hit with the local townsfolk.
The cat - which was named Dewey after library categoriser the Dewey Decimal System - was so well loved its obituary ran in more than 200 papers across the US when it died aged 19.
The script is being penned by Pamela Gra, who has previously written for Streep on 1999's 'Music of the Heart'.
No other cast members have been announced and no director is currently attached.
