Dennis Leary' award plea

Dennis Leary' award plea

Thursday, 2 July 2009

Dennis Leary wants to win an award.

The actor - who voices sabre-toothed tiger Diego in 'Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' - says that he doesn't understand why he has never been honoured for any of his movie achievements.

He joked: "I would like some respect though. I mean, let Robert De Niro try playing a sabre-toothed tiger with identity problems. I went back in time and became an extinct animal, not just once but three times, and this time I did it in 3-D. Not one nomination, not even any buzz, not even any chatter.

"And zero for eight at awards shows playing a real human being."

The 'Rescue Me' star is even becoming concerned his bad luck is rubbing off on other people.

He added to Parade.com: "I was nominated for a Golden Globe earlier this year for Recount and I didn't get it. So I was outside grabbing a smoke and trying not to be bitter. They came and said, 'You've got to go back in. Kevin Spacey can't be here, but he wants you to accept his award if he wins.' So I sit down and what happens? Bleeping Kevin loses. I'm thinking, 'Now I'm losing awards for other people.' "
