EastEnders' Tamzin Outhwaite to head new ITV1 drama

Friday, 28 September 2007

Tamzin Outhwaite is lined up to star in a new crime drama on ITV1.

The former EastEnders actress will appear alongside Peter Mullan, Andrew Buchan, Shameless' Jody Lee Latham and Life on Mars' Liz White.

Created by the same team which produced Spooks, Hustle and Life on Mars, the six-part series centres on ex-Special Forces man John Mercer.

After leaving prison, he is recruited by a retired police officer to help remove untouchable criminals from society and joins up with a new group of colleagues, including characters played by Latham and Outhwaite.

ITV director of drama Laura Mackie commented: "The Fixer is crime drama like you've never seen it before.

"With Mercer and his team operating at the very edges of the law, this is a thriller which will ask our audiences tough questions about justice and what happens when the long arm of the law isn't quite long enough."

Recently, Outhwaite - who played Melanie Owen on Eastenders - discussed her plans to start a family with actor hubby Tom Ellis. The 36-year-old also said that she would consider returning to Albert Square in the future.
