Doctor Who - Rhys Ifans to be new Doctor
Tuesday, 18 December 2007
18 December 2007- Rhys Ifans is set to become the next 'Doctor Who'.
The 'Notting Hill' star is one of the favourites to take on the prestigious role, after it was revealed the current Timelord, David Tennant, is to quit after the next series.
A source told Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "It's felt that Rhys would bring very different dimensions to the role and would make a more maverick, slightly menacing Doctor, perhaps more in the mould of the former Timelord Tom Baker."
'Cold Feet' actor James Nesbitt is also said to be in the running to take on the prestigious role.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Saunders is set to be the first female 'Doctor Who' - for just one episode.
Producers are keen to get the 'Absolutely Fabulous' actress on board for one of three specials, which are set to be filmed in 2009.
A source said: "She's in the running and we all think she would be fantastic."
