Simon Pegg says the London premiere of 'Star Trek' was a "geek dream come true".

The 'Spaced' actor was thrilled to walk the glittery blue carpet in Leicester Square last night (20.04.09), surrounded by smoke machines and screaming fans wearing pointy Spock ears and spandex costumes.

He told BANG Showbiz: "For me, tonight is incredibly special. It's the Empire Leicester Square. I saw films here as when I was a child. To be here myself, it's a geek dream come true."

From the minute Pegg - who plays Scotty in the movie - got out of his car, fans were hysterically screaming his name.

The noise was almost deafening, and the 39-year-old actor is pleased so many people showed up to celebrate their "nerdiness".

He said: "I love the 'Star Trek' fan base. They are world leaders in positivity. I'm glad so many of them are dressed up. It's silly not to dress up and anyone who looks down on it is just cynical.

"The one thing about trekkies is that they're out and proud. There's no such thing as a closet trekkie."

Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk, was also impressed with the British fans.

He said: "We were in Australia last week and it was far more laidback. I felt like I could have a barbecue and drink a beer. The response here is great.

"It's not just the long-term fans who will like this movie. J.J. Abrams has created a great action film where you can escape into another world."

Eric Bana, who plays the villain Nero, Zachary Quinto, who plays Mr. Spock, Karl Urban, who plays Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy, and Zoe Saldana, who plays Nyota Uhura spent an hour talking to fans and signing autographs.

'Star Trek' - the 11th film in the hit sci-fi franchise - is a prequel, which explores the early friendship of Captain Kirk and Spock, and the first days of the Starship Enterprise.

Director J.J. Abrams, who also created US TV series 'Lost', was excited to be back in the UK.

He told BANG Showbiz: "I love London. It is the best city in the world and I would move here tomorrow if I could. I've never been more excited about a premiere in my whole life."
